Guatemala

In 2009 Teens Inc began its signature International service trip to Antigua, Guatemala. Every summer since, we spend 9-10 days in Guatemala immersing ourselves in hands-on service projects, jumping into adventure, and living with families.  These projects include the building of houses, volunteering at a malnutrition center for infants and toddlers, participating in clothing and food distribution, and serving at the homeless shelter. Exposure to the Mayan-Latino culture, working with entrepreneurial teens at Suenos, and playing soccer or ninja with peers are always highlights.

Teens and chaperones live with middle-class families, sharing meals, practicing Spanish, and being immersed in life in Antigua. The trip has plenty of adventures too. An overnight to Lake Atitlan, visiting Mayan ruins, and whitewater rafting with a company making a difference for the river and the kids are ways we unwind, dive in, and build our team.

The Teens Inc difference is in our preparation. We are committed to empowering teens to earn a service and immersion trip abroad while making a difference along the way. In our months of preparation, we include Guatemala research, Spanish practice through teaching adults, team building engaging 12 service and fundraising events. And, WE ALWAYS HAVE FUN.

“It was truly inspiring to go to a place that had so little and yet were the happiest people I'd ever met, it made me look at every day and everything I had differently” - Cameron Callanan
